Alfred's Kitty Pi - Revealed.

Hello there again..

I have finnally settled down here with my laptop to bring to you pictures of Alfred's Kitty Pi bed.. He does love it.. and he sleeps in it pretty oftin..

Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky in Yukon

It all begins with the yarn. I really liked knitting with this yarn.. I started knitting on December 12th 2006.

Here it is all knitted up.. It ended up being REALLY BIG.. which I understand is good for felting.. I modified the pattern a little by putting a hem at the edge instead of the fluffy eyelash yarn around the edge.

Feburary 23rd was felting day, so I put it in a zippered pillow case and threw in some old stiff towels and washed it, I think a total of 4 times with hot wash and cold rinse. And it came out like this:

I took our plastic cake dome/transporter thingie and put towels around it to make a drying rack for it. I think I actually need something with a bigger diameter to make it really work properly.. but I'm just not sure what that could be. I'd like to give it a shot because even though when it came out all standing up and pretty, after a while it got really... well.. floppy. Now it's balled up in the corner.. and I'm not sure how to fix it. But like I said.. Alfred likes it anyway:

So I don't really know why the sides don't stand up properly.. I think maybe I need to felt it one more time.. AND dry/block it on something larger.. but I don't really know... I want to work on it soon though.. cause it just makes me sad.

But to leave you with something more positive.. Alfred and I bring you an artsey type picture.

The fuzzyness intrigues you.

Well your kitty loves his floppy bed anyway, and that's what's important. He'd probably squish down the sides anyway, now, as much as he's digging in there, lol. It's a very nice kitty bed =)
Nice job on the Kitty Pi bed. I haven't gotten around to making my cat one yet. And of course yours is blue!

I think more felting might help. It is hard to tell from the pics but it looks like you can still see stitches. Fully felted material looks like a solid piece of fabric, not individual knit stitches.
He seems to like it! My cat's bed does stand up on the sides, but she mooshes it down, anyway.
I think your kitty pi looks great.
